⭐⭐⭐⭐ A lovely stay – but more of a solid 4-star experience unless you have VIP We recently stayed here as a family and overall had a really lovely holiday. Our room was great – spacious, comfortable and very clean – and we were very happy with it throughout our stay. The food was also very good, with lots of choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner. You certainly won’t go hungry at mealtimes! However, one thing we really missed, especially travelling with children, was having snacks available between meals. Something simple such as pizza, sandwiches, fruit or ice cream would make such a difference, particularly near the beach. When children spend most of the day swimming and playing in the sea, they get hungry very quickly, and there really wasn't much available between breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bars were another area that could be improved. They can get extremely busy and the cups/glasses are quite small, which means people have to return frequently and there seems to be a queue most of the time. Also, the bars not opening until 10am isn't ideal. If you have an early breakfast and want to head straight to the beach for the day, you can be left without anywhere to get a drink until 10am unless you walk all the way back to the main reception area. For an all-inclusive resort, an earlier drinks station or self-service water/soft drink area would be really helpful by Gabi beach. The beach itself is beautiful, but some of the sunbeds and umbrellas could definitely do with updating. Some of the parasols have very little covering left on them, meaning they provide hardly any shade, which is particularly important in the Cape Verde sun. The biggest thing for us is the 5-star rating. The hotel is advertised as 5-star, but unless you upgrade to VIP, there are areas and facilities that you cannot access. Personally, I feel that if certain parts of the resort experience are restricted unless you pay for an additional VIP level, then the standard all-inclusive experience doesn't quite feel like a true 5-star stay. I would rate the standard experience as a very solid 4-star. That said, the staff deserve a special mention. Everyone we met was friendly, welcoming and clearly worked hard to make guests feel relaxed and enjoy their holiday. There is a lovely laid-back atmosphere, and we genuinely enjoyed our time here. Overall, we had a great family holiday and have some wonderful memories. With a few improvements – particularly snacks between meals, better access to drinks in the morning, upgraded beach umbrellas and a little more inclusivity for non-VIP guests – this could be an even better resort. 🌴☀️🇨🇻

We stayed at Melia Dunas as a family and overall had a very enjoyable holiday. The hotel is very large with a spacious and well-maintained territory. We stayed in a family suite with two bedrooms, a living room, two bathrooms, and a kitchen. The apartment was clean, recently renovated, spacious, and equipped with everything we needed. The resort grounds are beautiful and well-kept, with many swimming pools to choose from. The beach has a convenient sandy entrance into the ocean, making it comfortable and safe for swimming, especially with children. The food selection was extensive. There was fresh fish available every day, plenty of delicious fruit, and the à la carte restaurants were excellent. We always enjoyed our meals there. The staff throughout the resort were friendly and helpful. Another advantage for families is that the entertainment shows were barely audible in the family area, so we slept very well at night. There were also some downsides. The island itself is very barren and desert-like, and the beach lacks natural shade. The beach umbrellas provide limited protection from the sun, and many of them are damaged. Most of the swimming pools are also fully exposed to the sun. We were surprised that there were no changing cabins anywhere on the resort grounds or near the beach. Public restrooms were often not very clean, and hand soap was frequently unavailable. Although there was a large variety of food, much of it lacked local character and seemed imported. The juices and alcoholic drinks were not particularly good, and the wine was quite sour, even in the restaurants. There are also mosquitoes on the island. Our children were bitten several times despite using insect repellent. Despite these issues, we were very satisfied with our stay. The hotel is comfortable and convenient for families, our children had a great time, and we left with many positive memories. We would recommend Melia Dunas to families looking for a relaxing beach holiday.

I recently stayed at Melia Dunas and overall I enjoyed many aspects of the hotel. I really enjoyed the food, which offered a good variety and was consistently enjoyable throughout my stay. The pools were also excellent, clean, well maintained, and a great place to relax. Unfortunately, one aspect of my stay made me feel uncomfortable. A member of staff named Junior/Badjon behaved unprofessionally towards me. While working, he contacted me and sent messages of a personal nature, asking to sleep with me. I did not feel this was appropriate conduct for a member of staff interacting with a guest. While I appreciated many aspects of the hotel, this experience negatively affected my stay. I hope management takes guest professionalism seriously and addresses concerns of this nature appropriately.

We stayed here for a week and would 100% come again and recommend. The staff were lovely and easy to ask for any help needed. On arrival they helped us bring suitcases to the room which was a massive help. The restaurants you could book were fantastic especially Rancho, however I would definitely book online in advance to avoid any disappointments. There was many free loungers through the day at all the pools and the beach was all free to use. The locals were also fantastic and not pushy, would defo recommend to do a tour with the locals. The food in the buffet was a bit repetitive but lovely. Drinks at the bars were also great. The rooms were always clean and comfortable. Also, as travelling as two younger girls we always felt safe here. The entertainment at night is also great and fun to watch. Would definitely recommend!

Wonderful resort with lots of space, huge swimming-pools and a gorgeous beach. The restaurant has a very big choice of food not only at breakfast, but also lunch and dinner. The rooms very cleaned every day and the towels were changed whenever we asked. Also a special thank you to Leyla from the public relations and Julia from Level breakfast restaurant, who made our holidays really memorable. We truly recommend this hotel , and look forward to come next year
