Description
The tour begins with hotel pick-up in Praia, followed by a scenic drive through rural landscapes, villages, and agricultural fields toward Monte Tchota.
Starting from Monte Tchota, the hike follows nature trails within the Natural Park at about 800 meters altitude. The park's unique microclimate supports lush vegetation and biodiversity, contrasting with the island’s drier zones.
Hikers ascend to Pico d'Antonia, Santiago’s highest point at 1,394 meters. From the summit, clear days offer views over São Jorge valley, the island of Maio, and the volcano on Fogo island.
The full hike covers approximately 10 km round-trip and lasts 5 to 6 hours. A picnic break near Pico Leão provides a quiet spot to rest and enjoy the surroundings. After the hike, the group returns to Monte Tchota before transportation back to Praia.
This trail is rated difficult and recommended for those in good physical condition. Proper hiking boots and suitable clothing are required.
