A beautiful green oasis and a wonderful animal sanctuary Pachamama Eco Park is one of the most interesting and relaxing attractions near Santa Maria. The botanical gardens are beautiful, peaceful and very well maintained - a remarkable green oasis surrounded by Sal’s dry, desert landscape. The park is also a sanctuary for rescued animals. Many of them were previously abandoned, mistreated or exploited, while others needed a new home after their owners passed away. You can see monkeys, donkeys, goats, turtles and tortoises, parrots and parakeets, peacocks, ducks and many other animals. We especially loved the friendly chickens, colourful roosters and guinea fowl wandering freely around the grounds. Being able to observe them so closely was a lovely experience, particularly for the children. It is perfectly possible to walk here from Santa Maria. The route is easy and felt safe, and we really enjoyed the walk because of the beautiful desert scenery along the way. Just remember to take some water and sun protection. The park has plenty of shaded areas where you can slow down and relax. There is also a pleasant, family-friendly bar and restaurant where you can have a drink or something to eat. Another important advantage is the very clean and hygienic toilet, which visitors can use free of charge. There is also a small gift shop. Allow approximately 90–120 minutes to explore the entire complex at a comfortable pace. It is a wonderful place for families with children, animal lovers and anyone who would like to take a peaceful break from the beach. Pachamama Eco Park combines beautiful gardens, rescued animals, education and relaxation in a truly special way. Highly recommended!

Lovely oasis! I love that the story on how each animal came to pachamama was by their enclosure. It feels peaceful and balanced animals and plants. There is plenty of seating and choices at the cafe. Seema the animals are well treated and they doing their best with the available resources.

This eco park was so lovely. We came here mainly for the animals, but we also love plants and flowers so it was an added bonus. They have so many animals, and I read on their website that they’re all rescues which makes it even more special to me! They have chickens, peacocks and Guinea fowl wondering around which is so cute and the other animals have big areas too. Entry is only €5/500 ESC, which is really reasonable. We walked around for about an hour, and I ended up getting an adorable crochet turtle as a souvenir, that was actually made by someone in prison! They also have a cafe/bar with a vast range of options of juices, alcohol and snacks. This was only a 10 min drive from our hotel (Riu Cabo Verde) and I highly recommend it for anyone visiting!

We visited that lovely place last week. That marvelous botanical garden is so clean and well-maintained. It is home of more than 150 plant species and is environmentally friendly. Small building are all made with wood and clay, consequently they cause minimal harm to the environment. The amimals are also in good shape.
