Description

Sea Turtle Watching – The Magical Night of Turtles in Boa Vista Join an unforgettable nighttime adventure and witness the nesting of majestic loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) on the protected beaches of Boa Vista island. This 4 to 5-hour eco-tour takes place during the nesting season and is guided by local experts committed to environmental conservation and responsible tourism. WHAT TO EXPECT Your experience begins with hotel pickup between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM (exact time will be confirmed the day before). Transportation is provided in 4x4 vehicles or minivans, depending on hotel location and group size. After a short drive to a protected area, you’ll be welcomed by certified guides who will introduce you to the local ecosystem, turtle behavior, and the essential rules for safe and ethical wildlife observation. During the nighttime walk, your group will be led along sandy paths and dunes to designated observation spots. Lights are strictly controlled to avoid disturbing the turtles’ natural behavior. Guides will explain, in multiple languages, each step of the nesting process—from the moment the female turtle reaches the shore to the digging of the nest and the laying of the eggs. Observation is done in silence and from a safe distance, following high standards of wildlife protection. In the rare case that no turtles appear that night, the group will still receive valuable information, see protected nests, and learn about the daily work of biologists and conservation volunteers. After the visit, you’ll return to the starting point for hotel drop-off, with the tour ending between 11:00 PM and 1:00 AM, depending on departure time and beach location. Important Information

  • To ensure the protection of the turtles, the use of flashlights, artificial lights, or cameras with flash is strictly prohibited during the activity. Silence is essential to avoid disturbing the animals' natural behavior. While the chances of sightings are high, turtle presence cannot be 100% guaranteed, as it is a natural phenomenon. The activity takes place at night and may involve periods of quiet waiting on the beach, requiring patience and respect for nature. We recommend wearing dark, comfortable clothing and closed shoes suitable for walking on sand.
