Reviews
This is a tough review. It really is quite close to being five stars and I feel almost guilty for a four star review. Here are the highlights: live music, good rooms, good water pressure, friendly people, A+ atmosphere, fantastic dinner (burrito). Here are the lowlights: live music a little too close to the rooms (was tired anyway so I was able to pass out), costly water (American-coded), was accidentally locked in the guesthouse courtyard at 7:45 am because the guesthouse manager went to run errands and locked the gate. The location is a short walk from the center area which is an added plus. I do not know the nearest bus stop but I can't imagine it is far. I was unable to find Zyns at this location. The dinner was very tasty and they had vegetarian vegetable options for the vegetarian wife who eats vegetables. I had the burrito (with local meat and vegetables), and the wife had a burrito (with vegetables). All in all I enjoyed my brief stay at Syd's guesthouse and it was a good stepping stone towards the great and magnificent islands of Cabo Verde. May they win the world cup! IMPORTANT EDIT: Breakfast was getting served as I was writing this review. Changed everything to five stars. Breakfast was the absolute best. Yogurt so fresh it was churned yesterday. The cheese was so fresh I could still hear it bleating. 🐑 The bread was so crisp that when I bit into it shrapnel flew into my face and blinded me. Thank god for my sense of smell otherwise I would not have been able to find the eggs. Worth being blinded. Would do it again.
This place is THE spot in CV. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and they truly went above and beyond to welcome me. The tacos were so good i had them every night of my stay (very reasonably priced too). The room was well-equipped, clean, and comfy. The acai bowl for breakfast was to die for. There was live music on Thurs and Fri night and both bands were fantastic. Beyond that, Sasha helped my friends get a taxi home late at night, walking them down to the main road and waiting with them until he helped them find one. Thank you to everyone at Syd's; i'd recommend this place to anyone and will for sure be back when I'm back in town. Did I mention there's a beautiful beach around the corner? The perfect place to stay!
