A Morning to Remember: Excellence at Ouril Hotel Mindelo I popped into the Ouril Hotel Mindelo today, simply looking for a quiet workspace with rock-solid internet to power through my morning tasks. What I discovered, however, was far beyond just a desk - it was a masterclass in hospitality. First off, let’s talk about the tech: they are equipped with both fiber optics and Starlink. For those of us who need constant connectivity, this is a dream setup. It’s 2026, and frankly, I consider stable, high-speed internet a fundamental right - and Ouril delivers exactly what a Westerner expects and demands. I was graciously invited to set up on their beautiful terrace, which was buzzing with the fresh, inviting energy of breakfast service. From the very first moment, I was blown away by the staff. It is rare to see a team so genuinely passionate about what they do; every interaction felt authentic, warm, and professional. You can truly tell when a team enjoys their work, and the vibe at Ouril is absolutely infectious. Later in the morning, I had the pleasure of sharing a conversation with the hotel’s director, Carine. After our chat, it hit me: when you have a strong, empathetic, and visionary leader at the helm, the guest experience is elevated to an entirely different level. It is crystal clear why this hotel runs so smoothly - it starts at the top. I walked in looking for an office for the day, but I walked out with a new favorite spot in Mindelo. I am already looking forward to my next visit, and this time, I’ll be checking in as a hotel guest! A huge thank you to Carine and her incredible team for an unforgettable morning. If you are looking for top-tier service and a place that truly cares, look no further.

If you are looking for the basics, this hotel does a great job. The room and bed were very comfortable, and the housekeeping staff did an excellent job cleaning the room every single day. The service from the staff was generally good, and the location is excellent—very accessible to most of the surrounding area. However, a few amenities really bring the experience down. The breakfast area is far too small for the number of guests in the hotel. It gets incredibly crowded; you can't help but bump into other guests while trying to get your food, which makes the morning stressful. I was also surprised that there is a 10€ deposit just to use a pool towel. Also the mandatory hotel wristband is very annoying. It is hard to take off, and sleeping with it is uncomfortable—it scratches your face if you move your hands near your head. Walking around the city wearing it made me feel like a tagged sheep. 😄 Finally, the Wi-Fi situation needs serious improvement. The signal is strong in the lobby, but very weak inside the guest rooms. It seems the access points are only located in the lobby, and the signal struggles to pass through the thick walls and doors to reach the rooms. Management needs to install access points closer to the guest rooms to fix this. Summary: A clean, comfortable place to sleep in a good location, but the breakfast experience and technical setup need work.

This hotel has the location and building to be an excellent hotel, but cuts corners in a way that seriously impairs the stay. The shower water is tepid, the tap water is not potable but they do not provide drinking water - that is unacceptable in any hotel; as a frequent traveller for 40 years, I have stayed in hundreds of hotel and never before have I had problems getting drinking water! The restaurant food is good. Breakfast is fine but the room is cramped. The bedrooms are a decent size with good views and clean, though a bit sparse - more 3* than 4*. There is no decoration, the TV is small and our bathroom shower head was dirty. The pools are small, especially the one on the roof is for lounging in not swimming, but the view is good. We were able to check in before the normal 1500 check in time so they seem to have become more flexible on that. They want you to wear a wrist band during your stay - not normal or appropriate for an urban hotel. But overall, it’s hard to get over the failure to provide drinking water!

Very decent hotel: two comfy pools, good breakfasts, spacious and clean rooms with very comfortable beds. Strict check-in policy, you won't get your room even few minutes before 15:00 (but you wait at the swimming pool area)
