Description
The Mount Sao Joao is an isolated hill of 160m altitude in the outskirts of Mindelo. It's famous for its 360 ° round view on Mindelo, the bay area, Monte Cara and the outback of Sao Vicente. The tour guide picks you up at the 'peoples palace' in central Mindelo. You drive with the bus to Ribeira Juliao, the starting point of your hike. We pass the chapel of Sao Joao before the ascent begins. After about 45 min we reach the top of Mount Joao. We pass the ruins of an old artillery station from colonial times before we reach the highest point with its magnificent view. On our descent we pass the first wind park, that was erected on the island, then we cross the golf course and the cemetery of Mindelo with the grave of Cesaria Evora (we might visit, if the clients want to). The duration of the walk is about 2 hours, we go 160 m up and 160 m down. Solid shoes are recommended and you need about 1 l to drink.Includes
